  3. Characteristics • Dorso-ventrally flattened body • Large Pectorals not attached to head • No Anal fin, 2 dorsal fins • Hypocercal tail with large lower lobe • Dorsal eyes, • Large dorsal spiracles • Terminal mouth with barbels S. dumeril

  4. Other Characteristics Dermal denticles in Squatina guggenheim Large Labial Cartilages, Conical, pointed teeth Ex. Squatina californica

  5. Distribution of genus Squatina • Found worldwide on continental shelves • Subtropical-warm temperate seas • Found from 0-500 m depth, bottom dwelling

  6. Feeding Morphology • Wide jaws produce large suction, • Pointed teeth grip prey
