    2. Control Valves Direct flow from power generating devices to power transducers. Aid in establishing system pressure conditions by restricting the flow of oil. Valve Types: Shut-off These valves operate at one of two conditions Wide open Completely shut-off Modulating Valves valves used to control the flow of oil, the most common type of valve used in these applications is a spool and sleeve.

    3. Control Valves Continued Other types of modulating valves are available (i.e. pulse width modulation w/poppet, servo with first stage flapper- nozzle or jet pipe control, etc.) Shut-off valves: In the shut-off condition these valves are designed to completely stop flow. In the open position the valves are designed for maximum flow. The pressure loss in the valve will determine the load carrying capacity of the actuator. For ease of analysis we will assume the valves act as if they are orifices. Flow through the valve can be described as,
