This guide provides an overview of the operational procedures for using a self-erecting tower crane. It covers essential sections, including planning the lift, site/job planning, setting up the crane, performing the lift, and securing the crane after operation. The guide emphasizes the importance of proper planning, adherence to workplace rules, and proper certification—requiring an intermediate or advanced rigger's certificate. Additionally, it addresses safety considerations when operating near aircraft traffic zones, including necessary warnings and operational guidelines.

The information in this show is for operating a Self-Erecting Tower Crane. A self-erecting tower crane means: a type of tower crane whose elements are not split into their component parts but are transported from one site to another in a compact folded up style. The erection and dismantling process of the crane is much faster than fixed type tower cranes. Power is supplied through a power cable connected to an external power supply. The crane is set up on integral outriggers or stabilisers with adequate packing.
Job procedures before setting up When preparing an operational plan for cranes you would need to do the following: • Job requirements. (Plan the job) • Priorities. (What is most important?) • Workplace rules. (Check site rules) Protect pedestrians and traffic (continued next slide)
