  1. Welcome to Mme Sooley’s Grade 6 class 

  2. A little about me…. • I’m a parent too! Here are Ian (12), Tara (10), Patrick and Charlotte (3 ½)

  3. (Just kidding. I actually love my job.)

  4. What do I teach your child? • 6Sooley: Math (Daily), Science (3 times per week); • 6 Lawson : Math (daily); • 8 Butler and 6/7 Horgan: Post Intensive French (4 times per week).

  5. Class expectations • This is a translation of the rules we decided on as a class the first week of school: • In MmeSooley’s class, we respect ourselves, each other, and materials; • We raise our hands and wait our turn to leave the room or to speak; • We listen, participate, and speak clearly in French; • We do our best work, and take responsibility for assignments and for our materials.

  6. Homework • I use the ‘10-minutes-per-grade-level’ rule of thumb. • This means your child should spend an average of 60 minutes per evening on homework at the most in grade 6 (all subjects combined), including work on long-term assignments. • Math homework • Post-Intensive French is an interactive program during which most learning takes place with the teacher modelling; there is very little homework. • Science will have very few daily assignments; most homework will consist of working on long-term projects, writing pieces, etc.

  7. Homework continued…. • Daily assignments and updates can be found at… http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/1942/Pages/default.aspx • Click ‘Class Websites’ and choose ‘MmeSooley’ (or your child’s teacher for other subjects; eg. Mme Simon for French Language Arts.)

  8. Please stay in touch! • I can be contacted any time at victoria.sooley@nbed.nb.ca I check this e-mail and respond to messages at least once every 24 hourperiodduring the schoolweek. You mayalsogive me a call at the school; 847-6201 (pleaseleave a message if itisduring class time.)
