Pre-Lecture Quiz True or False • Oxygen is one of the four elements of fire. • Carbon dioxide is one of the key elements of fire. • They type of fuel being burned is one of the considerations when classifying a fire. • Class A fires are fueled by ordinary combustibles like wood, paper, cloth, etc.

  10. Class D Fire • Fuel is combustible metal • Magnesium • Sodium

  11. Types of Fire Extinguishers Use different substances to control fire – Water – Dry chemical – Dry powder. Rated by class they extinguish – A,B,C or D – Combination of classes (ABC). Clearly labeled.

  12. Proper Use of a Fire Extinguisher • Know where extinguishers are located. • Instructions for use on label.

  13. PASS Method • Pull pin or push button • Aim at base of flames • Squeeze the trigger • Sweep slowly back and forth.

  14. Evacuate • If extinguisher isn’t putting out fire • If fire is spreading • Close doors behind you • Call for help.
