  4. Key Terms • Accessibility Features – Embedded supports available to all students during a computer-based test. Allowing students to adjust the background color or contrast of the screen are examples. Educators have to activate specific accessibility features prior to a test, based on a student’s personal needs profile, which is designed to ensure students receive appropriate access to tests without the distraction of features they don’t need. • Accommodation – Practices and procedures that provide students with disabilities equitable access to instructional materials and assessments. • Device – Digital tools that students may use in daily classroom instruction and to take tests, including, but not limited to, desktop computers, laptops, netbooks, tablets and assistive technologies for students requiring accommodations.

Key Terms • Embedded Support – An embedded support is a tool, support, scaffold or preference that is built into the assessment system that can be used by ANY student, at his or her own discretion. Embedded supports are known as universal design test features. They can be accessed onscreen through a toolbar, a menu or a control panel, as needed. For example, students who take the PARCC assessments will have access to a highlight tool, which will enable them to highlight text as needed, to recall and emphasize certain material. • Released Item – PARCC intends to release a large number of items from its assessments after each administration. • Rubric – An established set of criteria, including rules, principles and illustrations, that attempt to communicate expectations of quality. Key Terms • Technology-Enhanced Construct Response (TECR) – This ELA/Literacy item uses technology to capture student comprehension of texts in authentic ways that have been historically difficult to capture using current assessments. Examples include using drag and drop, cut and paste, and highlight text features. • Technology-Enhanced Items (TEIs) – TEIs are items administered on a computer and take advantage of the computer-based environment to present situations and capture responses in ways that are not possible on a paper-based test. • Universal Design for Assessment – describes a framework for curriculum design, instructional processes and tests that provides all students with equal opportunities to learn and demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

School Test Coordinator • Become familiar with the PARCC Field Test Manuals • Coordinate testing schedule with building principal • Develop a security plan • Develop a training plan • Identify all students who will be testing • Coordinate accommodations for eligible students • Receive, inventory, secure, distribute test materials • Train test administrators • Collaborate with technology coordinators and other team members

  10. SCHOOL TEST COORDINATOR • Monitor Test Activity • Schedule make-up Testing • Print student authorization and seal codes • Destroy appropriate materials

  11. Back Up Coordinator • Work with school test coordinator to ensure successful testing • Be available to assist the school test coordinator and technology coordinator with pre- and post-testing duties • Be knowledgeable of the school’s testing process and procedures

  13. PearsonAccess PearsonAccess is the single, consolidated online system for managing the PARCC assessments. Access is role-based, meaning you will only see the data and perform only those tasks for which you have been authorized. • Manage student data for testing • Manage staff accounts • Create computer-based test sessions • The PARCC PearsonAccess website is located at http://PARCC.Pearson.com

  14. How Do I Access PearsonAccess? Live Site The PARCC PearsonAccess website may be accessed at http://PARCC.Pearson.com

Training Center • From the PARCC site, select Training Center. • Select Sign In. • Enter your User ID and password, and then click Sign In to go to the Training Center. • NOTE: A separate User ID and password is required to access the Training Center; contact your LEA/District Test Coordinator if you have not received a login.

  16. Activity • Log on to Pearson Access website • www.parcc.pearson.com • Log into pcssd.org email account • Set up your user account • STC creates account for Backup • OTC creates account for Backup Coordinator • Backup creates account for a test administrator • Help your teammate if necessary

  17. Log in Assistance • Unlock User – will allow you to unlock your account if you accidentally lock it. (Attempting to log in too many times with the wrong password.)

  18. Reset Your Password • To request that your password be reset, enter your User ID and Email Address, and then click Reset Password. • You will receive an email containing instructions and a link to a screen for resetting your password. • If you do not know your User ID or you are having problems logging into the system, contact the School Test Coordinator or District Test Coordinator.

  19. Forgot Your User Name • To request your user ID, enter the E-mail address associated with your user account and then click the E-mail User ID. • You will receive an E-mail containing your user ID(s).

  23. User Accounts • Primary method for controlling access to the system and maintaining security of data • Allows user to access the online system and perform various tasks. • User is assigned one or more roles • Each role has a set of permissions

  25. View and Create Individual User Accounts Authorized school personnel (STC and BSTC) will be able to view and create staff user accounts within PearsonAccess manually.

  26. View User Accounts View User Accounts lets authorized personnel view and update existing accounts, as well as create new accounts manually.

  27. Manually Create a New User Account A user’s role and organization will determine the functionality they can access.

Student Data • Refers to student demographic data and other test-related information about individual students. • Must be uploaded or entered manually • Student Data pulled on 1/21/14 • Students entered in selected classes after date must be manually entered • Students testing online • Sped students • Still enter; will not receive labels

  30. Student Data • Required Data • First, Middle, Last Name • State Reporting ID • Grade • Date of Birth • Sex • Ethnicity • Disability Type • Economic Status (put in “no” if information is not available at that time) • Group and test name • Data can be edited.

NEW STUDENTS • Student wizard will allow you to register a new student for a test. • 4 steps required to register student • Can exit wizard at any time • Pick up where you left off • Must complete all four steps to register a student • For training purposes the system will create new students

  32. Create New Students • Because the Training Center does not use actual student data, you can create sample students for training or practice purposes. The Create Students option is not available in the operational site. • To create sample students, complete the required fields and click Create Students. The sample students are now assigned to an organization, group, grade, and test. • Note: The Training Center is role-based so you will only see and have access to those features for which you have permission. In addition, some features are for practice and exploration of the interface only and do not include processing capability (for example, no additional orders will actually be placed from the Training Center).

ACTIVITY • Create a group of students • Select your school • Create a new group called “Sample” • School Test Coordinator – Sample- “Grade Level” • Backup Coordinator - Sample 1 – “Grade Level” • Technology Coordinator – Sample 2 – “Grade Level” • Select an appropriate grade level for your building • Select an appropriate test for your building • Enter “50” for the number of students

  34. Student Data Information Student Data Information allows you to search for students, add or delete students, update enrollment, and view reports.

  41. Register Students – Manual Steps After manually registering a student, a registration class and test(s) must be added.

  42. Test Management • Registering students • Students must be registered to be assigned to a test. • Two ways to register • Student Data Upload • Manually Assign • Add student data • Enroll the student in a school • Assign student to a registration class • Assign student to a test

  43. Test Management • A student must be in a class before the student can be assigned to a test. • Creating Groups • This step is required if there are additional groups to be tested. • Additional classes • Used for reporting purposes • Relate this to completing the class header sheet

Assigning Students to a Group • To add a class assignment for the selected administration, click Add Class Assignment, select the box next to the class name, click Add, and then click Yes - Continue with Add. • To remove a class assignment for a selected administration, select the box next to the class name, and then click Remove Class Assignment. Note: to remove a class assignment, there must be no test assignments associated to that class.

  49. Activity • Create a new reporting group (class) • Select several students to move into this group • Remove the students from their assigned class • Change the assigned test for each student.

  50. REGISTRATION SUMMARY REPORT • To request a summary report containing information about unregistered and registered students, test assignments, and test attempts click Request Registration Summary. Go to Test Results>Published Reports to download the registration summary report.
