Searching & Exporting in RLIN21

What’s New with Searching • Alternate/browse searches • Title, Author, Subject, ISBN, ISSN, LCCN, Record ID • Command Line • FI, FIN, FIND not required • Chaining - ; instead of / • Narrow large results – limit instead of also • Specific bibliographic format - ; lim mat instead of sel fil • No separate format files • Non-roman characters are visible on all workstations

  4. What’s New with Searching (cont.) • Title searches • Quotation marks optional • Boolean symbols (+, &) may be omitted without impacting results • Dialog boxes to refine searches • Records • Can be selected with a click • Easier to print the entire record

  6. What’s New with Exporting • A click of the mouse • Typical folder: c:\Voyager\catalog\RLINimp\pass.sav or c:\Voyager\catalog\RLINimp\RLIN21.sav

  7. Reminders • Command Line • Default for searching • Not a browse search • Required for • Government document number (086) searches • Score publisher number (028) • Roman script catalogers should not export a non-roman record to the workstation

Reminders (cont.) • Author searches • Comma required between last and first names • Hyphenated names • Include hyphen or replace with a space • E.g., Jones-Doe, Jane or Jones Doe, Jane • Names with apostrophes • Include apostrophe or close the space • E.g., O’Brian or Obrian • Verify edition and format before downloading • Exit session when you finish searching • Do not have more than one session open
