In response to the massive budget cuts felt across the state and overall economic downturn, our SIC became increasingly interested in the economy’s effect on class size and elective opportunities in our school Greater concern was expressed by the willingness of legislators to support issues such as private school vouchers and increased State Charter School funding despite the tight budget School improvement council

  5. To assist in providing a way for our community to have the opportunity to question the direction of funding for public schools and to express their concerns to those in office, two partnerships were created with other School Improvement Councils in our district. Sic ACTIVITIES FOR 2011-2012

Town Hall-type meeting at Beck Academy • Two House members to speak • Parent moderator • Two main elementary feeders and primary high school invited to participate in and promote event • Organized a political debate for Republican Primary Senate race held at Mauldin Middle • Partnered with numerous SICs throughout district Partnerships

  7. Representative Henderson publicly supported fully funding EFA soon after the town hall meeting Incumbent Senator was defeated with a pro-public education candidate winning primary and election Our SIC now partners with other SICs on a regular basis Results…

  8. Thank you for the time and recognition I encourage you to seek out partnerships with other schools and districts. We must reach out and unite to seek the best opportunities for our children of not just our school, but of our state. Thank you and encouragement
