The SALTS Mission • “Provide a reliable, secure and easy to use method of brokering logistics data and services from anywhere in the world” • “One Touch Supply” for the remote logistician • SALTS was conceived at the Navy Aviation Supply Office in February 1991, during Operation Desert Storm as a means to move Logistics Data to and from the battlefield…

What data does SALTS process? • SALTS Gram Messages • Internet E-MAIL • MILSTRIP (submission and status) • Navy Purchase Card Certifications • STARS TLs • STARS Ashore (B1) TLs • MFCS TIRs (including food service and fuel processing) • National Inventory Management Strategy (NIMS) • File Storage / Retrievals • Fleet Fast Pay • Job Order Accounting (NECC & SPECWAR) • Navy Asset Visibility (FITS)

  4. How SALTS works SALTS • Accumulates Data • Compresses Files • Addresses Files (Automatically) • Encrypts File Packets • Transmits the Data With minimal user input

SALTS data deliveries • DLATS, DFAS • DECC Mechanicsburg • TYCOM Headquarters, • Other shore, and Afloat customers • Mainframe • Mini-computer • PCs Data is automatically moved based on file suffix, or placed in a mailbox for pickup by another SALTS User. SALTS interfaceswith all hardware platforms via Secure File Transfers.
