  4. E-MAIL VIA HAM RADIOHow do Hams do that? Where the incident is not within VHF range the radio link must be made on High Frequency. Any network station in the world that can be reached may be used. There are 70+ around the globe, 3 in Canada at the present time. 6. E-MAIL VIA HAM RADIOReview • A digital ham radio station can tie any served agency to internet e-mail using Amateur Radio networks and digital messaging. Now for how a Telpac Gateway works . . .

  7. E-MAIL VIA HAM RADIOWL2K TELPAC - WL2K’s Telnet Packet Bridge • A computer with internet access, TNC, antenna and vhf radio (i.e. a TelPac Gateway) on your Local Area Net (Packet LAN) can help bridge across the Last Mile. • The internet access should be High Speed, but can be full time or dial-up. • The PMBO to which the TelPac is linked via Telnet can be located anywhere in the world. • There is nothing special about a TelPac Gateway – it is just a simple packet radio station running on Win98 or better and left running 24/7.

  8. E-MAIL VIA HAM RADIO WL2K TELPAC GATEWAY INCOMING CONNECT FROM PACKET OR PACLINK MP STATION. Antenna An incoming data packet is routed through the tnc to the computer, managed by the TELPAC Gateway software, and is directed to a distant WL2K PMBO via Telnet. VHF Radio TNC Computer TELNET LINK TO DISTANT WL2K PMBO The telnet exchange of e-mail takes place at the speed of the internet connection. The show will start again in a moment . . .
