This study tracks and compares crime statistics in Enhanced Neighborhood Patrol (ENP) neighborhoods against those with security cameras. Utilizing data from the DPD Public Offense Database, various offenses such as burglary, theft, and motor vehicle crimes are examined. The study covers neighborhoods including Old Lake Highlands, Forest Meadows, Town Creek, and others. Results indicate that while ENP shows significant reductions in property crime rates, the effectiveness of security cameras can vary based on monitoring practices and neighborhood factors. Active community involvement remains essential in crime deterrence.

Conclusions • Good evidence that ENP provides a significant moderation to the rate of property crime, though evidence not clear in some areas • Effectiveness of security cameras can vary with vigilance of camera monitors, number of neighborhood entrances • Neither strategy is a “silver bullet” against crime, but either can be an effective tool • There is no substitute for an actively involved and mobilized neighborhood
