  3. First gold rush 1803 • A gold rush started as a slave found a 28 pound gold stone next to a lake • Many of discoveries continued to happen until gold was discovered in California in 1849

  4. Gold Found in California • James Marshall was building a saw mill and saw something shine in the water. • People everywhere dropped everything and ran to California to dig for gold.
