  5. The message • Whatis the publicity for? • Who are your audience? • Where is your event? • When is the event? • Why do they want to get involved?

  6. Posters • The Students’ Union has 10 notice boards • Do you want to use the Mac? • Think about how many posters you print • Print flyers and posters at SU Reception • Posters and flyers must be approved

  7. All advertising must: • be appropriate and relevant to students • be marked with an expiry date, and removed afterwards • be approved, recorded and include ‘BUSU Approved’ stamp • be displayed without covering any existing posters Poster, Flyer and Advertising Policy A ‘BUSU Approved’ stamp must be obtained from SU Reception, SU Marketing or the VP Communications in order to display your posters. An electronic copy is available upon request.

Poster, Flyer and Advertising Policy Posters, flyers and advertisements must NOT: • be abusive, obscene or contravene equal opportunities and safe space policies • use alcohol as the main selling point of the event – drinks offers should include soft drink alternatives • advertise alternative club night on a Wednesday or a Friday • be placed anywhere on the parade • be placed on walls or windows • be stuck up with blue tac or selotape • cover existing posters

  9. Get your original poster or flyer approved first Then print or photocopy as many as you like from this design Flyers can be distributed on-campus • Permission letter must be sought from SU Marketing On-campus residence distribution via mail room • Permission letter is needed from SU Marketing • Date booked with SU Marketing in advance • Do not distribute door-to-door or via residence kitchens On Campus Distribution

  10. All societies can advertise on plasma screens Book in advance as there is limited spaces available BathStudent.com banner adverts Limited spaces, must have a link Events Listing - Restrictions Apply Plasma Screens & Banners Contact SU Marketing for help and advice suadvertising@bath.ac.uk

  11. Advertise your society event on the parade Display boards available for societies to paint and decorate Arrange through the Activities Office Speak to Jessica Harrison. Book in advance as they are very popular Can be time consuming and usually require two coats of paint Stalls outside the front of the library Can be booked in the activities office only Outside display boards & Stall hire

  12. Important to publicise and feedback on events • Borrow the flip camera • Use BathStudent.com to inform students • Promotion on the University homepage news • Publicising outside of the University…? Public Relations (PR)

Student impact newspaper Submit articles, adverts, publicity to impact-editor@bath.ac.uk Campus television - Ctv Ctv can film and record your society activities and events This can be edited to produce a documentary or short clip University Radio Bath - URB URB can play at your event, or even record it with interviews Hire the URB Roadshow or DJs for your own party or ball For more information on Student Media contact sucommunications@bath.ac.uk Student Media

  14. Use SU Marketing when seeking sponsorship • Ensure your society is being treated fairly • Access the sponsorship database • Arrange Invoicing for you Sponsorship

  15. Companies your society cannot use include: • travel companies • temping agencies • companies promoting excessive drinking • gambling agencies and websites • armed forces Sponsorship restrictions
