  3. Since January 30th 2013 there have been several meetings to discuss community wellness and the potential to develop a plan. Initially the meetings had a Community Safety and Wellbeing focus. Interest to move forward with a broader focus. Also need for more clarity about what we are trying to accomplish. Background

The Region of Waterloo (Chair Seiling) volunteered to help bring together partners to discuss next steps which could include a collective vision and a path forward.  UWKW, KWCF, WRCPC, LHIN and WRPS have been working with the Region of Waterloo to help develop an approach and process. This planning group has had two meetings with a larger "Reference Group" to provide advice on the development of a draft approach. Background

  5. A draft approach and goals were developed to help create a collaborative and integrated approach to community wellness for Waterloo Region.  Agreed that the Region would hold Discovery meetings with the collaboratives over the summer months. Background

Purpose of discovery meetings • Create awareness about the Community Wellness Initiative. • Gather feedback to inform the overall process and structure of the Community Wellness Initiative. • Establish interest in moving forward. • Discover how best to connect and engage with the collaborative.

  7. Draft approach

  8. Purpose – The "Why" Section 3 “In order to create new, significant and impactful solutions, we wish to work together to identify and address collective priorities that will improve community wellness so that everyone in our community is able to thrive, and no one is left behind.”

  9. Proposed initial goals

Collaborative process & structure • Build on existing work and collaboratives. • Bring all the appropriate community partners together to develop a shared vision of community wellness. • Provide opportunities to develop an integrated, shared, holistic and measured agenda and action plan for community wellness.

  11. Shared vision and collective plan • Develop a shared vision and collective aspirations of community wellness, based on the desired future state. • Develop collective priority areas to focus on based on gaps and issues.

  12. Measurement & monitoring framework • Create a commonly agreed upon set of indicators of community wellness. • Understand, identify and measure factors that strongly influence community wellness. • Identify potential gaps or priority areas for collaborative action. • Understand the impact of our efforts and actions identified in the action plan. • Tell us over time whether community wellness is improving.

  13. Proposed Structure

  14. Community wellness network • Invite all interested community partners who support and advocate for community wellness. • Membership from existing collaboratives and other related organizations. • Work on the initial goals described.

  15. Coordinating Committee • Provide leadership and direction with the overall planning and engagement for the initiative. • Would include members from the Network as well as other stakeholders. • Review membership to align with priorities.

  16. Working Groups • Working Groups are sub-groups of the Community Wellness Network. • Ongoing or task specific. • Take action on particular projects, actions or areas of focus identified by the Community Wellness Network. • Members could include individuals from different sectors specific to the task at hand. • The Working Groups would report to and take direction from the Network through the Coordinating Committee.

  17. Backbone Support • The organization that provides ongoing support to all functions of the Community Wellness Network and work groups. • Ensure facilitation and logistics for meetings and Working Groups • Mobilize funding. • Region of Waterloo as interim back bone support. • Future back bone will be identified by the Community Wellness Network.
