  3. Established in 1880 by Royal Charter by Queen Victoria, we are in our 129th year. Created to ensure common standards, particularly in audit, to educate and work in public interest.

  6. We work with governments, regulators and industry to ensure highest standards in finance and accounting profession are maintained. Our members provide technical and ethical financial knowledge and guidance to individuals and organizations worldwide.

  7. Our thought leadership programme looks ahead at long term issues from the financial sector and helps to shape government thinking, such as regulatory, business and tax policy.

  8. I believe in transparency and accountability – hallmarks of our profession and principles worth defending.

  10. Over the last years we have strengthened our engagement with policymakers in the UK, US and the European Commission in Brussels. We have: • Given evidence to the SEC in Washington • Events and meetings with officials and legislators in Brussels • Produced submission to the G20 Summit in London Dialog with government at the highest levels ensures the issues we care about are put on the agenda.

  11. The representations we make, are considered authoritative and of value in helping to shape and influence economic and business policy discussions. We are convinced that the global financial and economic crisis requires a global economic response.
