  2. Symbiosis • Symbiosis is an interaction between indivduals of different biological species • When two organisms live on, in or near eachother

  3. Kinds of Symbiosis • Commensalism • Mutualism • Parasitism

  4. Commensalism • Commensalism is when one of the organisms receives a benefit and the other is not significantly harmed or helped by the interaction.

  6. Mutualism • Mutualism is when both organisms receive a benefit.

  7. Examples of Mutualism The sea anemone protects the clownfish and the clownfish brings food back to the sea anemone. Both are being benefited because the bee is getting honey for it hive and it’s also so spreading pollen to create more flowers.

  8. Parasitism • Parasitism is when one organism receives a benefit and the other organism is harmed by the interaction. • The one that receives the benefit is called the host and the one that is harmed is called the parasite.

  9. Examples of Parasitism This leech sucks blood from any animal while said animal is harmed and has some blood loss. A tick sucks and lives inside the animal it targeted and some ticks and drastically harm their host.

  11. Competition • Competition is a contest for some prize, honor, or advantage.

  12. Examples of Competion These two deer could be fighting over territory, food, or mates. This gopher is fighting to eat the nut before one of the birds takes it.

  13. Cooperation • Cooperation is an act or instance of working or acting together for a common purpose or benefit.

  14. Example of Cooperation This monkey is helping the other by picking the bugs out of its fur. This colony of ants are helping each other up the leaf so they can all eat it.

  15. Predation • Predation is a relationship between two species of animal in a community, in which one (the predator) hunts, kills, and eats the other (the prey).

  16. Examples of Predation This shark (predator) is attacking to try and eat the seal (prey). This owl (predator) has caught and will eat that lizard (prey) that’s in its beak.
