  6. Iroquois • HOMES: Longhouses were 200 feet long and 20 feet tall, that could hold 50 people! lived in settled villages • LANGUAGE: Iroquian • DRESS: Men wore breechcloths and women wore moccasins • FOOD: Farmed the three sister plants (corn, beans, and squash)

  7. Family Structure and Responsibilities of the Iroquois • Men hunted cleared the fields and were in charge of war • Women planted crops and were in charge of there houses

  8. Iroquois Culture • Used canoes and snowshoes • Made masks and cornhusk dolls • Used to live in what is now New York

  9. What Happened to The Iroquois • They all moved to separate location’s • Some are in green bay Wisconsin, Ohio

Algonquian • HOMES: Wigwams were 8 to 10 feet tall!!! • LANGUAGE: Algonquian • DRESS: Animal skin in the winter, and light close in summer • FOOD: Mostly hunted some small animals and farmed the three sisters. • Games: played lacrosse, hide and seek, shinny, Walked on stilts, cats cradle and web weaving.

  12. Family Structure and Responsibilities of the Algonquian • Men: Were in charge of war, fishing and hunting • Women: Made baskets, clothes, gathered, cleaned and planted. • Both: Were in charge of family

  13. Algonquian Culture • Villages had 1 to 20 villagers • Made dream catchers, (made of birch bark, net and feathers) wam pum (made from clay beads, quahag or clam shell) and spears to help catch fish.

  14. What Happened To The Algonquian • The Algonquian are still around but now the live by the Mississippi river to the Atlantic ocean.
