How has the NHS changed and why? • On 1 April 2013, the NHS changed so that local doctors, nurses, medical professionals and patients can have more influence on how and what the NHS spends its money on. • What is the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)? • From April 2013, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group took over responsibility for Commissioning – planning and buying healthcare services for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and parts of Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire. • The CCG is led by doctors and other health professionals who make decisions about local health services . • The CCG has 108 member practices and 820 member GPs .

What is a Local Commissioning Group(LCG)? • In Cambridgeshire and Peterborough local GPs have formed Local Commissioning Groups (LCGs). • Every GP practice across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough (plus 2 in Northamptonshire and 3 in Hertfordshire), is now a member of one of 8 LCGs. • Peterborough Local Commissioning Group is one of the 8 LCGs with 20 member practices. This will ensure a local focus when decisions about health services are made. • This means decision making will be shifted closer to patients. • These LCGs are members of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

  7. Our Priorities • The CCG bought together all the GPs at a clinical meeting to discuss all the issues and concerns they had regarding the health of the local population. From this, the following 3 priorities were identified: • Improving services for people that are frail and elderly • End of Life Care • Reducing Inequalities in Coronary Heart Disease

The LCG and CCG will focus on what is important to patients by: • Listening to their needs and views • Improving co-ordination of care for people, by promoting closer working with and between our valued partners • Providing friendly, caring, quality services to all our patients and carers • Have we considered everything we need to?

Patient Reference Group • The Patient Reference Group helps to ensure that, in all aspects of the CCG’s business the public voice of the local population is heard. • Each of our Local Commissioning Groups (LCG) is represented at the Patient Reference Group to ensure meaningful engagement with local patients. • To ensure that we engage and gain patients views when we redesign services and propose service changes. • Continue strong links with Healthwatch organisations to ensure that they become strong and valued critical friends of the CCG and LCG

Patient Engagement • Ensure that a range of patient and public voices are heard at CCG and LCG level including groups who sometimes miss out on being heard • Continue strong links with Healthwatch organisations to ensure that they become strong and valued critical friends of the CCG and LCG. • We aim to look outwards to all our communities and engage and communicate effectively.

  11. Communication There are a number of ways you can stay up to date: CCG website : http://www.cambridgeshireandpeterboroughccg.nhs.uk/ Join the CCG data base and receive a quarterly update. Also choose which subjects you would like to hear about and we will send you updates in those areas We are in the process of developing a LCG website which will include a section on the Patient Forum Group The nominated patient representative on the Patient Forum Group will ensure information is shared between Peterborough LCG Board, Patient Forum Group and Patient Reference Group.
