  3. Academic Programmes • CELP (Credit English Language Programme) • FPEL (Foundation Programme – English Language)

  4. Credit Programmes • English for CAMS (Agriculture & Marine Sciences) • English for Economic & Political Sciences (CEPS) • English for English Specialists (EES) • English for Engineering • English for Humanities • English for Medicine (and Nursing) • English for Science

  5. Credit Programmes • Courses are mostly 6hrs per week (a few 4hr courses) • Duration - 15 teaching weeks + 2 exam weeks ( a semester) • Courses are known by code: LANC + 4 digit code e.g. LANC2033 • Some programmes have only one LANC course, others have two or three

  6. Credit Programmes • Credit course programmes overseen by PROGRAMME CO-ORDINATORS (PCs) assisted by COURSE CO-ORDINATORS (CCs)

  7. FOUNDATION PROGRAMME • English (FPEL) • Maths (FPMT) • IT/Computer Science (FPCS)

  8. FOUNDATION PROGRAMMEENGLISH LANGUAGE (FPEL) • Courses are 18 or 10hrs per week • Duration – one semester • Courses known by code FPEL + 4 digit code e.g.FPEL0120 • All 4 skill areas covered

  9. FPEL • Foundation course programmes overseen by COURSE CO-ORDINATORS (CCs) assisted by ASSISTANT COURSE CO-ORDINATORS (ACCs)

  10. FPEL • Six entry points to FPEL: or students can EXIT directly to Credit Programme

  11. FPEL • ALL students sit a PLACEMENT TEST (from this a large number of students will be placed into 0120 / 0230 / 0340 / 0450) • Some students qualify to sit an EXIT test (from this students will be placed in 0560 / 0603 or allowed to proceed direct to credit)

  12. FPEL • FPEL0120, 0230, 0340 are GENERAL ENGLISH courses. • FPEL0450, 0560, 0603 have SOME COLLEGE-SPECIFIC (ESP) materials

  13. FPEL • ASSESSMENT Formative – Continuous Assessment Summative – 2 x Formal test events - Mid-semester tests - Final tests
