ToR of the Working Group • Establish discussion area on ICRIForum • Identify potential IYOR partners and invite them to participate in discussions of ad hoc committee • Disseminate ICRI decision on IYOR2008 widely to cultivate potential partners and to initiate action • Identify national and regional focal points, and form an appropriate global network structure to implement IYOR 2008 • Determine TOR for IYOR coordinator and webmaster position and identify appropriate host, coordinator and webmaster, and identifying appropriate funding arrangements. • Develop a draft Plan of Action which will include but is not limited to (communication strategy, funding strategy, IYOR2008 theme and objectives, IYOR2008 Logo) • Report back to the next ICRI General Meeting on the progress to date and to present the draft Plan of Action.

Dissemination of the ICRI IYOR decision The ICRI IYOR resolution has been widely disseminated to: • the ICRI country Focal Points • Regional/international organization (UNDP, PEMSEA, UNEP's Division of Communications & Public Information, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Association of Caribbean States (ACS), ROPME, UNEP Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific, European Commission, CITES…) • International NGOs • International campaigns / initiatives / years (International Year of Planet Earth, the Blue Flag campaign, the International Coastal Cleanup, the Equator Initiative, the Year of the Ocean, the World ocean Day, the Tour Operators Initiative…)

  4. Dissemination of the ICRI IYOR decision Several mailing lists and newsletters • DC Marine Community List • Caribbean Coral Reefs List • White Water to Blue Water List • Global Islands Biodiversity List • RAMSAR Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) List • RAMSAR country administrative authority • ICRAN Newsletter

  5. Identify national and regional focal points • Several focal points have been identified. The full list of focal point is available on the web site. • A mailing list for Focal point has been created.

  6. Develop a draft Plan of Action • A draft plan of action was developed and circulated for comments. • The Plan of Action will be discussed during the afternoon session

  7. Determine TOR for IYOR coordinator • National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) took the lead on drafting Terms of References for the IYOR coordinator. Under the US co-Secretariat, NOAA will providing be financial support for the ICRI IYOR coordinator and webmaster functions. • The ToR were circulated to all the ICRI focal points and to the Ad-Hoc committee for comments (posted also on the ICRIForum). • Need to be approved during the meeting.

  8. IYOR Logo A logo contest within the ICRI community was organized and 27 logos from around the world were received. In order to select 5 finalists, a first vote was done within ICRI / IYOR partners (77 votes were received). Based on the initial screening, the five finalists are presented at the ICRI General Meeting for a final decision.

  9. Web site – www.iyor.org The – temporary - web site was launched early January with the following: • Latest News • What is the IYOR? • IYOR Resources (Key documents, Educational materials, IYOR National Focal Points • Get involved (How to get involved?, Activity and event ideas, IYOR associated events) • Newsletter A newsletter system has been set-up, and as of April 16th, 70 persons have signed-up from 29 countries.

  10. Collection of existing educational materials Whenever possible, IYOR 08 will encourage the use existing materials and programs rather than developing new ones: • Gathering of existing materials • Creating partnership to be able to re-print (with IYOR logo)– and translate them when appropriate- • Listing them on the IYOR web site

  11. Next steps… • Approve the ToR for the Ad-Hoc Committee • New composition for the Committee • A detailed report on the IYOR will be distributed soon (including all the information received from ICRI members)
