  1. VISION,LIGHT, LIGHTING Kuliah SMM

  2. LIGHT • Portion of electromagnetic spectrum which can be detected by the human visual system • Range 380 s.d. 760 nanometers

  3. Color Selection • In general • Choose compatible color combination, avoid red-green, blue yellow, green-blue, red-blue pairs. • Use high color contras for character background pairs • Limit number of color, 4 for novice user & seven for expert • Use light blue for background areas only • Use white to code peripheral information • Use redundant coding (shape or typeface as well as color) 6-10% of males have defective color vision • Visual display unit • Luminosity diminishes in the order white, yellow, cyan, magenta, blue • Use white, yellow, cyan, or green against a dark background • For reverse video use nothing (i.e., black) red, blue, or magenta • Avoid highly saturated colors

  4. Measurement of light • Luminous intensity; the power of source or illuminated surface to emit light • Luminous flux; the rate of flow of luminous energy • Luminance; the light emitted by surface • illuminance; the amount of light falling on surface • Reflectance; the ratio of the luminance and illuminance at a surface

  5. LIGHTING STANDARDS • SEE table 10-3 page 266 (introduction to ergonomics)

  6. CONTRAS & GLARE • Contras = 100 x (Lbright-Ldark)/ Lbright • Glare occurs when there is an imbalance of surface or object luminances in the visual field, the brighter sources exceeding the level to which the eye is adapted

  7. Lighting design consideration • A suitable of illumination • A balance of surface luminance • Avoidance of glare • Temporal uniformity of lighting

  8. TASK FOR ALL STUDENT • Find research for now and future a bout lighting, vision.
