  1. Mrs Dalesio's Newsletter Inglewood October 2007 Note from the Editor October is my favorite month (and not just because it’s my birthday month). Cooler air, changing leaves and Halloween. This month each grade focused on a different type of mystery and/or problem solving activity. Check out the Inglewood library for many puzzling mystery titles to extend this concept at home. For more information on gifted resource please visit my web page at www.npenn.org 2nd and 3rd Grade This month we began by reading a mystery book called Puzzle Island. We are trying to solve a mystery about a “thought to be extinct” animal. Each page of the book has hidden animals that will help lead us to the final solution. We also used our problem solving skills with Tangram puzzles and word games. By, William 4th Grade This month we did a lot of fun things. First, we did One Minute Mysteries. They were awesome but hard to solve. We continue to work on our chocolate mystery using decoding strategies. We will know who committed the crime this week. Last week we did creative writing puzzles. We had to make a definition for a made up word and draw a picture for it. We worked together to add things to the picture and the definition. By, Lucas 5th Grade We continue to work on our designing structures project from last year. We are building toothpick bridges to then test their strength. We also began and finished a mystery book called Art Fraud Detective. We compared paintings to decide which were real and which were forgeries. Now we get to choose an extension project. I am going to research painting styles and show examples of five different styles. By, Ryan 6th Grade This month we started with 30 Second Mysteries to practice our sleuthing. Then we rolled into our marble maze project. The point of this project is to design a course to go at the slowest possible speed. We are learning a bout variables and what we can change to make our mazes more efficient. To take a break from the marble mazes, we developed our creative writing skills by making definitions for made up words. By, Elayna
