  4. Oxygen Cleaning • Removes all contaminants • Organic • Hair / skin flakes / saliva • Wood / paper / lubricants • Inorganic • Grinding dust / sand / lint

  5. Oxygen Cleaning • Cleaning Agents: • Biox • Distilled water • Dilute citric acid • Non-ionic surfactant • Simple Green • Check data sheet with manufacturer • Disposal

  6. Remember • Ease of contamination • Disassembly • Reassembly • Qualified technician • Regulator • Cylinder & valve Gas Blender does not qualify to undertake oxygen cleaning

  7. Cylinders • Ensure cylinder empty • Check using low pressure air • Remove valve • Do not use calibrated torque wrench • Remove accessories • Clean loose paint/rust flakes • Remove CIP label

  8. Cleaning Valve • Dismantle the valve • Corrosion removed • Soak in warm detergent > 10 minutes • Rinse in warm water bath • Components can be air or oven dried • Use CLEAN air • Replace O-rings & seals

  9. Cleaning Cylinder • Cleaning agent diluted in hot water (60 C) • Wash inside cylinder • Shaken, scrubbed or tumbled • Thoroughly rinsed • Equipment must be CLEAN • Dry cylinder hot or cold air • Care with heating cylinders • Check manufacturer’s recommendations

  10. Reassembly • Visually inspect cylinder and valve • Flaws - check with thread gauge • Check clean and dry • Screw in valve by hand • Tighten according to manufacturers specification • Torque wrench requires calibration

  11. Refilling • Refill cylinder to WP • Check for leaks • Repair paint covering • Attach Oxygen Clean sticker with date • Keep log of cylinders & valves cleaned • Self cleaned – invalidates VIP

  12. Oxygen Service • Oxygen Compatible • Components for high oxygen content • Reduce risk of fire • Compression rate low • Flow rate slow • In Oxygen Service • CLEAN • COMPATIBLE
