  4. How is beautydefined? • the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), • a meaningful design or pattern

  5. How is beauty defined by other culture? Greek Japanese • define beauty from a rational point of view; • "we are all geometers", attracted to men with better proportion and symmetry • Plato - beautiful objects incorporated proportion,harmony, and unity among their parts. • Aristotle -the universal elements of beauty were order,symmetry, and definiteness • Perfectionist of the west • Wabi-sabi (侘寂) • "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". • nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect • Wabi = rustic simplicity • Sabi = beauty or serenity • wisdom in natural simplicity
