  1. VARDAN live efficient How to Treat Back Pain during Pregnancy Back pain during pregnancy is very common. Opting for options like chiropractic care, physical therapy, functional manual therapy, etc. is suggested. Almost all pregnant women experience low back pain, which can start within 8-12 weeks or in between fifth to the seventh month. The basic reason why women experience pain in their back is because of the meeting of the pelvis and spine at the sacroiliac joint. Other reasons include excessive weight gain, posture changes, hormone changes, muscle separation, stress, etc. Let’s read through a few methods which can be helpful in treating the problem of back pain during pregnancy: ● To reduce back pain from the body -- regular exercising is extremely important. Exercises such as walking, swimming and stationary cycling are fit to be done by pregnant women. The purpose of a workout during pregnancy is to strengthen the back and the abdomen. Regular exercising also helps in strengthening the muscles and boosting flexibility in the body. In addition to this, doing prenatal Yoga and aquanatal classes under a trained professional is also recommended. ● Heat and cold therapy is another remedy for treating back pain during pregnancy. Using cold compresses (an ice bag) for at least 20 minutes in a day for quick recovery. After using cold therapy for a few days, using heat therapy is suggested. Heat can be applied through a heating pad or hot water bottle. ● Functional Manual Therapy (FMT) can be helpful in dealing with back pain during pregnancy. FMT therapists put to use specific evaluation techniques to identify movement dysfunctions. Therpists use specific hands-on technqiues and movement patterns to restore efficient mobility of joints and tissues. Neuromuscular re- education is also used to improve specific muscle initiation, strength and endurance. This is the most suitable method of lower back pain treatment without surgery. ● Wearing a maternity belt can be very helpful and supportive while experiencing back pain during pregnancy. A maternity ball is able to hold up the belly to make sure the pelvic girdle and lower back do not get strained. The belt prevents the lower spine from expanding its curvature; thereby acting as a substitute for the abdominal core muscles. Pregnant women should continue wearing the maternity belt along with doing other exercises. 16 A, Ring Road, Lajpat Nagar - IV, New Delhi - 110024, India Email ID: vardan@timesgroup.com Contact No. +91 11 43580720-22

  2. VARDAN live efficient ● Meditation can be a great way of reducing back pain arising during pregnancy. While meditation, a relaxation response is triggered inside the body which stimulates the brain to control the release of stress hormones. With reduced stress in the body, the blood pressure and muscle tension also go down. Meditating regularly also helps in increasing the pain tolerance level; thereby reducing the intensity of pain experienced during pregnancy. ● Chiropractors use a wide range of techniques for giving relief to women from back pain during pregnancy. Chiropractors use joint manipulation techniques, exercises and soft tissue work to prevent women from feeling muscle tightness and nerve compression. This particular therapy prevents women from experiencing joint misalignment. Lower back pain during pregnancy usually goes away after the delivery; a rare case being if the pain is actually chronic. Females should take extreme care during such time. Checking the posture while sitting, sleeping and walking will help in reducing the amount of pain due to pregnancy. People looking for a center for pain management in Delhi should enrol themselves in Vardan which is located in South Delhi. This particular centre also offers physiotherapy for back pain to treat patients who are experiencing extreme pain since a long time. 16 A, Ring Road, Lajpat Nagar - IV, New Delhi - 110024, India Email ID: vardan@timesgroup.com Contact No. +91 11 43580720-22
