  3. Survived a bear attack but did get his ear ripped off by it and then a friend sewed it back on. Was also the 1st white man to travel over the Colorado river. Got killed by cannibal Indians. Jedidiah Smith

  4. Explored the Northwest region of Utah. Was charged with murder. Ogden, UT named after him. One of the best trappers. Peter Skene Ogden

  5. 1st European to see the Great Salt Lake. Amazing story teller. Trade post named after him (Fort Bridger). Jim Bridger

  6. Born a slave and married a Croix Indian woman because he was abducted by the Croix’s. Wrote a book about life. Was a Indian warrior and head man chief. Died of a nosebleed. James Beckworth

  7. Got attacked by a trap set by the Snake Indians; only him and a few survived. Established trading posts. Nickname “Man of the Mountains.” Provo and Provo river named after him. Etienne Provost

  8. Spoke many different languages and built many forts in the Great Basin. Great business man. Carved “Antoine Robidoux passed here 13 November 1837 to establish a trading post at the Green River or White,” in a rock in French. Antoine Robidoux

  9. Knew the Great Basin more than any other trappers, and discovered the main route to California. Led a gold expedition during the gold rush. “Walker’s Pass.” Joseph R Walker
