  3. Basic Facts to Understand this Prophecy • 1. This prophecy only concerns the Jews and Jerusalem. 9:24 • 2. The length of this prophecy is 490 years. • V. 24 • 3. The prophecy has three divisions of time. (7 weeks or 49 years; 62 weeks or 434 years and 1 week or 7 years.)

  6. First Period of 49 yearsThe Beginning of the Prophecy From the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. V. 25 with Nehemiah 2:1-8 Took 49 years but this would have included all the time to rebuilt the walls (Neh. 6:15) clean out the debris as well as rebuilt and restore all the damage that Nebuchadnezzar had done to the city. (2 Chronicles 36:19)

  7. The Second Period (434 years or 62 weeks) • …Until Messiah the Prince. V. 25 with Matthew 21:1-11 • Using the Jewish Calendar of 360 days a year Sir Robert Anderson, former head of Scotland Yard (1800’s), and Dr. Harold Hoehner (1975) sought to demonstrate that if the decree to rebuild Jerusalem was 444 B.C. and Christ entered Jerusalem on a donkey in 33 A.D. then it was precisely 483 years.

  8. The 483 years in the Jewish Calendar • Jewish Calendar • 1360 days in a year • ( 7 x 7) + (62 x 7) = 483 years • 483 years x 360 days = 173, 800 days • From March (Nisan) 5, 444 B.C. to March 30, 33 A.D. = 173,800 days. • Bible Knowledge Commentary, page 1363

  9. Events After the 483 years • Between the 69th week and the 70th week several events are prophesied to take place” • (A Gap of unknown time. Acts 15:14) • . Messiah will be cut off (His death) and He will have nothing. V. 26 • . The city and the sanctuary will be destroyed. V. 26 • . War and desolations will be the continuing experience of the Jewish people. V. 26

  10. The Third Period, the 70th Week • 1. “The Prince who is to come” (the Antichrist) will make a 7-year covenant with the Jews. V. 27 • 2. In the middle of the week he will break the covenant. V. 27 • 3. Stop the daily sacrifices and set himself up as god. V. 27 with 2 Thess. 2:4 • 4. “The Antichrist” will be destroyed. V. 27 with Revelation 19:10
