  1. PROPAGANDA IN THE USSR

  2. Life Of the Workers • Generally very poor • Poor working conditions • Stalin prioritized Russia ahead of the people leading to low morale .

  3. Introduction to Soviet Propaganda • During the 5 Year Plans era, morale and supplies were at a very low point in the USSR. • To combat this, Stalin’s only option was to draw attention away from the failures of the administration. • Therefore he created an image of prosperity and happiness using propaganda to appease and mislead the masses.

  4. Application of Propaganda Stalin used many different resources to communicate to the people of the USSR. Amongst many examples are radios, newspapers, books and speeches. Human examples were also used. Rumors and exaggerated figures were used to boost worker’s morale.

  5. Methods of Propaganda • People were lead to believe that they : • Were happy and satisfied (good standard of living) • Had adequate clothing and consumer goods • Had access to technology such as electricity

  6. Methods of Propaganda Apart from creating an illusion of perfection, Stalin also had to deal with the failures of the 5 year plans. This he did by blaming and accusing people of sabotage and working against the state. As a result, many people were arrested and made to confess crimes they did not commit.

  7. Effect On Workers The young faction of the community were very enthralled by the idea of communism under Stalin. They were content with suffering years of hardships for a better society. Also, many workers felt that if most of their peers worked hard (as they were lead to believe), they should do the same, to not stand out.
