  2. Features • 5 inch length • 12 ½ inch wingspan • Cigare shaped body • Dark grey body, white neck • Spine tail • Small but powerful legs

  3. Operation: Habitat of the CS • Found in southern Ontario and Ottawa reigons. . Migrate to Columbia,peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela in South America!

  4. Les Nouriture des Animaux • Flying Insects, weevil, flying ants , beetles, craneflies , mayflies , and bees. MMMMMMM good!

  5. “Toasty” Homes • Lived in old trees before houses/before European settlers • Live in chimneys as where it got it’s name

  6. Predators and threats • Hawks • Falcons • Decreasing amount of chimneys • Deforestation

  7. Life Cycle • Egg • Hatches after about 21 days after mom lays egg ( incubated during time) • Stays in nest and EATS a lot of food • 2 years old- independent and finds mate • Builds nest in chimney or old tree and has babies • Lives for a few years more then dies (hopefully without getting eaten) • FIN

  8. Reproduction/babies • Mating system- monogamous • Baby’s layed in chimneys • Baby eyes sensitive to sunlight until 2 weeks • 3-7 eggs per “clutch” • Mom and Dad incubate and care for eggs

  9. Behavior/Uniqueness • Gregarious • Uses both and tail to cling to vertical • Does not affect humans in any way, actually helps A LOT • Lives in chimneys

  10. Conservation • Don’t use pesticides on flying insects • Clean chimneys once in a while • Help build a “chimney swift tower ” • Volunteer in your community nature club • They are really helpful to humans!
