This comprehensive guide provides step-by-step instructions on mastering two-point perspective drawing using boxes. Starting with positioning your paper and establishing an eye level line, you’ll learn how to identify and draw vanishing points, vertical lines, and transversal lines to illustrate depth. The process includes techniques for erasing guide lines and adding color to enhance your artwork. With clear explanations for various box placements and tips on achieving accurate dimensions, artists of all skill levels can develop their perspective drawing skills through practice and creativity.

Boxes in Two Point Perspective
Place your paper in portrait position. Add Eye Level Line and Two Vanishing Points on each end of the Eye Level Line
Draw a vertical line above the eye level line. Draw transversal lines to show the depth of your box. Transversal lines form the nearest and furthest edges of a rectangle as it recedes from view. Draw orthogonallinesfrom the top and bottom of the vertical line that will converge at the vanishing points.
Draw orthogonal lines that recede back to the vanishing points from the deep corners of the box (the bottom of the transversal lines).
Repeat the process for the second box. Always begin with a vertical line that represents the closest corner of your cube.
Draw transversal lines to show the depth of your box. Transversal lines form the nearest and furthest edges of a rectangle as it recedes from view. Draw orthogonallines from the top and bottom of the vertical line that will converge at the vanishing points. Make these lines very light (whisper lines) as the lines that will be overlapped by other objects will need erased. Draw orthogonallines from the top and bottom of the vertical line that will converge at the vanishing points.
Repeat the process for the box that is “on” the eye level line. Erase your guide lines.
Repeat the process for the two boxes that are “below” the eye level line.
Calculating Diminishing Sizes U • Finding the center of a panel To find the center of a panel, begin with an “X” on that panel. Draw a orthogonal line through the center of the X Draw a perfectly vertical line through the center of the “X”. Erase the X
1 checkerboard with at least 8 boxes Draw a orthogonal line through the center of the X Begin with an “X” to find the center. Draw a perfectly vertical line through the center of the “X”. Erase the X
Find the center of the split boxes by using the same technique. • Draw vertical lines through the center of each X Erase the X’s
1 checkerboard containing 16 boxes Draw a orthogonal line through the center of the X Find the center of a panel. Draw a perfectly vertical line through the center of the “X”. Erase the X
1 checkerboard containing 16 boxes Find the center of a the small squares in each corner. Draw vertical lines through the center of the smaller corners

1 pattern containing diamonds Draw a orthogonal line through the center of each one of the four corners back to the vanishing point. Draw a vertical line through the center. Find the center. Draw a orthogonal line through the center back to the vanishing point. Continue to draw parallel diagonal lines that connect each smaller squares corners. Draw a vertical line through the center of each one of the corner squares. Draw an X through the center of each one of the four corner boxes to locate their center.
