  4. English Theories • Why the change? Is it because Americans are lazy? • Is it just American that changed English? • Why make a change even though we speak the same language?

  5. American Responses • Not because America is lazy, but because we are changing the language so that it is easier to understand for others. • Many others changed the language as well, Canada and Australia. • There is no reason to change, it just happened when we became independent from England.

  6. Tales from a Brit In a small interview of a British man that lives in Ardmore Oklahoma, theories of why the English language has changed from what it use to be to what Americans use. Certain questions were asked and the answers were almost the same from what have been already said.

Definitely....because England used to have a huge empire, the English language pops up in a lot of countries, not just the ones you mentioned in your question but also some Caribbean countries, some countries in Africa and in a lot of countries it is a second language too

  8. Interview cont. If so how do they differ? As in the "American" English I would guess the main differences would be spelling, pronunciation and words having different meanings, especially slang words

  9. Interview cont. How do you think they differ even though they originate from the same spot? I think in the case of American English it was due to the large cultural mixture of the settlers who landed in America, although most of which were of European decent you had Dutch, Spanish, French and English and the mish mash of accents, spellings etc led to the changes. I don't know this for sure but I am guessing because America was English ruled, the English language would have been the "Lawful" language used.

  10. Interview cont. What are some differences that you have noticed? The main differences are those I stated above, spelling and pronunciation. Where we would use S's in a lot of words American English uses Z's, I am sure there are a lot more examples and spelling differences but that is the main one I have noticed. Also the pronunciation of words, although this isn't so different to England, depending on where you are from in the UK (regional) words are pronounced differently.

  11. Interview cont. What was your reaction to American English? LOL, it really wasn't a shock when I came over, my wife can talk the hind legs off a donkey so I was well prepared.. and more seriously, I think with media today, movies, tv shows etc the English public are use to "American English“

  12. Interview cont. Do you think it will become it’s own language? I honestly can't see it happening, you have already developed it into your own form of language. I think it will just remain as English but in your own form.

  13. Other English Speaking Countries Australia – Population 23 million Canada – Population 35 million Each speak English as well but from watching videos interviews and peoples opinions, one thing can be said, English is one language, just with many different dialects across the world.

  14. Conclusion From thoughts on the English language, even though the meaning of the words are mostly the same, the differences lay in the way they are written and spoken.
