  3. Mission Statement • The Winston After School Program maintains quality care for all students in attendance. Winston will strive to provide a safe and constructive atmosphere for each student. Structured time will be given for students to work on homework, participate in art and physical activities, and enhance social skills.

  4. What is the Winston After School Program? • The Winston After School Program is an on-campus after school program for students in grades 1-6. • This is a fee based program offered outside of the school day. • All medical forms must be updated yearly by the parent and given to the After Care Leader before students may attend. • During After Care, students will be given opportunities to work on homework with a Winston teacher, participate in structured activities, and enhance their social skills.

  5. Program Components • The program hours are Monday-Friday 3:30pm-6:00pm. • Upon arrival each student will be given snack and time to settle in. • Academic time will be offered Monday-Thursday by a certified Winston teacher. Students will be given the chance to work on Winston homework and receive assistance and support. We make no guarantees that homework will be completed. • The remainder of the day will be made up of time in the gym/outdoors, art activities, and social skill/self-esteem building. • There will be NO After Care on early release days. • If a student is not in school on a given day, they may not attend After Care on that day.

  6. General Information & Guidelines • Our goal is to keep all children and staff safe. • When inappropriate incidents occur during After Care we will use methods of redirection and re-teaching. • The After School Program will not take responsibility for any lost or stolen items brought in by students. Therefore we discourage bringing items from home. • Students must maintain appropriate behaviors in order to continue After School Care.

  7. Students exhibiting behaviors that interfere with the safety and wellbeing of others and disrupt the Winston After School Program may be temporarily or permanently removed from the program. Such behaviors may include: temper tantrums, rudeness, disrespect, noncompliance, and physical aggression with students or adults. Parents will be notified at pick-up times if behavioral problems have occurred. In the event a child’s behavior becomes unsafe to him/herself or others, the parent or another person designated by the parent may be called to pick up the child within one hour. Students may be terminated from The Winston After School Program for nonpayment of fees, continual late payment of fees, or multiple late pick-ups. Behavioral issues and/or concerns may also be a reason for dismissal.

  8. Medical Information • All medical information must be updated yearly by the parent and given to the Winston Site Leader before the student can attend. Should your child have special dietary needs you may provide an appropriate daily snack.

  9. We do not maintain a school nurse or other health professional on staff. A parent must bring any over-the-counter or prescription medications, including Epi-pens, to staff for storage in a secure location. All “end of the school day” medications should be administered by the school nurse.

  10. Medical Con’t • If a child appears mildly ill or becomes ill during After Care: • Parent/guardian will be notified. • Caregiver will inform parent of child’s symptoms and review the policies and procedures for school participation. • Child will be cared for apart from the other children and, if available, given a place to rest. • Child should be picked up within 1-hour of parent notification. • Temperature higher than 100F. • Nausea or vomiting • Red, pick or crusted eyes • Diarrhea • Thick or greenish mucus from nose • Sore throat

  11. Medical Emergencies • In case of a medical emergency in which a person or child is suspected of needing CPR assistance, the Program Leader will check the victim and act according to guidelines. If 911 is called the staff will direct the medical personnel to the victim. The Program Leader will call the parents after making the 911 call. The AED equipment is available for use until the ambulance arrives. The EMS will decide whether or not to transport.

  12. Pick Up Information • Parents may pick their child up at any time during the official program hours. • Please be considerate and arrive on time. Late charges will apply after hours. • Anyone picking up a student must have a picture ID available at the time of pick-up. • All Persons listed on the pickup information sheets will be able to sign students out. • The person on the pick up list is responsible for giving all documents received at the time of pick up to the parent/guardian. • You may leave a message on the cell phone regarding student status at anytime. • For unscheduled early pick-up or to report a child absent for the day, parents need to call the Program Leader using the After Care cell phone number. • If we suspect the person picking up a child is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, we will call 911 and request police assistance.

  13. Safety Procedures • Daily Preventive Safety Measures • Every adult in the building should have a badge, Visitor or Volunteer sticker. If you see any adult or suspicious individual without identification, escort them to the office immediately. • All visitors to the building will enter through the front doors and sign in at the reception desk. • Keep ALL outside doors closed and locked at ALL times during operating hours. • DO NOT prop doors open for any reason. This includes front door, and all side or classroom entrances and hallways. • DO NOT grant entrance into the building to anyone through the side doors. Direct them to the front entrance. • Provide supervision for students at ALL times. • Actively monitor students at snack and outdoors. • Position staff on duty so all students can be observed. • DO NOT allow outside on red ozone alert days or in extreme heat.

  14. Safety Procedures Con’t • Students suffering from head injuries must always have an accident report filled out, and notify the parent at pick up as well as other injuries that cannot be taken care of with TLC. • Communicate with the parents regarding any injury with parent signature. • The Program Leader makes all decisions and parent contact when a child is sent home with sickness. • Be aware of children with medical problems. • Manager who will help to arrange for the necessary coverage. • Be sure to know and understand the Security Plan. • The types of emergencies that we prepare for include fire, disaster, severe storms, unexpected utility failures and medical emergencies.
