  1. Car Windshields: To Repair Or To Replace Them? Can you guess what the most common mode of travel is these days? Well, different people have different choices but if you take a deeper look on the automotive sector, you will find that cars and SUVs are gaining popularity considerably. But like a human body, you have to maintain your car no matter how expensive it is. If you think just feeding your vehicle with good quality fuel is enough, I would ask you to stop building a castle in the air, because your mean machine is prone to damages too. Did you know what the most common type of damage cars undergo is? It is their glasses. Glasses in a car include windscreens, side front and rear windows, and glass panel roofs on a vehicle which are also commonly termed as sunroofs. However, any types of glass in your vehicle can get damaged, but the most likely to incur detriment are the windscreens. The windscreen or windshield of a car holds paramount importance for safety and protection of driver and occupants from dust and debris on the road. It is also comfortable for the driver. So what will you do if your car’s windshield is damaged? You have two options in that case: 1. 2. You can get it repaired, or You can opt for windshield replacement. Many types of windshield damages can be successfully repaired, but there are certain factors on which repair depends. Those factors are: • Size and depth of damage: this depends on state and local laws, but the generally permissible limit for crack repairs is up to 61 cm, and that too unless it goes to the edge of the screen. In that case, it has to be replaced because it would then compromise the structural integrity of the windshield. • Type of the damage: linear cracks, circular bulls-eyes, crack chips, pits, dings, and star-shaped breaks are the type of damages that can be repaired without removing the glass, eliminating the risk of leaking or bonding problems sometimes associated with replacement. • Location of the damage: if the damage on the windshield hinders driver’s sight, or is very near to the edge – it cannot be repaired. Apart from this, damages cannot be repaired if they are: • • • • • • On the both layers of the glass On inside of the windshield Very long cracks Contaminated cracks Complex multiple cracks Edge cracks and chips If they reach the drivers critical viewing area. A windshield that cannot be repaired has to be replaced. Windshield replacement is not a time consuming process; it takes less than an hour. But what is important here is to ensure that the replaced screen bonds sufficiently

  2. withstand the forces of a crash. This further ensures that the vehicle is safe to drive. The adhesive bonds could fail if not properly cured, making the occupants to get ejected or injured.
