  3. Admission Criteria • Intensive Care Units • High-Dependency Units

  4. ICU • Endotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilatory support • Support of two or more organ systems • Chronic impairment of one or more organ systems who require support for acute reversible failure of another organ

  5. HDU • Detailed observation or monitoring that cannot be provided at ward level - Direct arterial BP monitoring - CVP monitoring - Fluid balance - Neurological observations - Regular GCS recording

  6. Support for a single failing organ system, excluding invasive ventilatory support : - CPAP or NIV - Moderate inotropic or vasopressor support - Renal replacement therapy • Step down from intensive care

  7. Respiratory Critical Care • Shock • Respiratory Failure

  8. Cardiac Arrest • Cardiogenic Shock • Pulmonary Edema • Acute MI • Cardiovascular Collapse • Cardiac Arrest

  9. Neurologic Critical Care • Coma • Encephalopathy • Subarachnoid Haemorrhage

  10. Oncologic Emergencies • Pressure or Obstruction caused by space occupying lesion - Superior Vena Cava Syndrome - Pericardial Effusion - Intestinal Obstruction - Urinary Obstruction - Malignant Biliary Obstruction - Spinal Cord Compression - Increased Intra Cranial Pressure - Neoplastic Meningitis - Seizures

  11. Metabolic or Hormonal problems - Hypercalcemia - SIADH - Lactic Acidosis - Hypo glycemia - Adrenal Insufficiency • Treatment related complications
