The third generation of the Skoda Superb has just made its debut in India. This sedan has been launched on 23 February at an introductory price of 22.68 lakh rupees (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Interestingly, for the first time, Skoda is offering the top-end variant Laurin & Klement in India. This wonderful sedan had its global debut a few days ago at the Geneva Motor Show.
For a company that has not made great inroads in the Indian market, thanks largely to wrong pricing and marketing, the Skoda Superb could offer a fresh lease of life. Going by the looks of the car, it certainly seems that the carmaker has planned it to be an outright winner. The car looks grand, stylish and powerful enough to attract the instant attention of the car lovers.
The Skoda Superb is based on the latest MQB platform of Volkswagen Group. The Superb is definitely bigger and spacious than its earlier versions. However, the car is also 75 kg lighter than its previous edition. As the car is longer, taller and wider than the older editions, it is quite an eye-catching vehicle too. It offers a massive boot space of 625 litres. Some of the notable features of the all-new Skoda Superb are Bi-Xenon headlights that comes with Illuminated ‘Eyelashes’, sporty 17-inch alloy wheels, rear deck lid spoiler and crystal-cut tail lamp, among others.
Comfort and Safety Features • The Skoda Superb is a feature rich car, if not anything else. Some of the exciting features include has 12-way adjustable front ventilated seats with programmable memory, 3-zone Climatronic A/C with rear vents, 12-Speakers Canton Sound System, 6.5-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Smart link connectivity and Panoramic Sunroof, all of which comes as standard offering across all models.
The safety features like 8-airbags, driver fatigue detection system, rear view camera and auto hold parking brake in addition to the other standard safety features make this sedan one of the most safe cars on the Indian roads.
Engine • Skoda Superb is available in both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants run on a 1.8L, 4-cylinder TSI engine, which is capable of generating a top power of 177 bhp. The diesel variants, on the other hand, run on a 2.0L, 4-cylinder TDI motor that can churn out 174bhp of peak power. Both the engines are mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard. The mileage offered varies between 13.1 and 17.2 kmpl, depending on the engine type as well as road conditions. • Although it is too early to judge the car, it would be safe to say that the Superb would give its competitors like the Toyota Camry a run for their money.
