  2. Natural Resources • The materials we use from nature such as wind energy, water, plants, animals, and fossil fuels to make the things we need are called natural resources. They are the basis of life on Earth. • Example: Forest, Aquatic life, Wildlife, land, water, Air.

  3. EXAMPLES:FOREST, GRASS LAND, WILD LIFE, SOIL, WATER, AIR

  4. Metal Sources: Iron, Copper, Gold Silver, Non-Metal Resources : salt, clay, sand etc

  5. Major Natural Resource threats • Habitat destruction • Extension of agriculture • Filling up of wetlands • Conversion of rich bio-diversity site for human settlement and industrial development • Uncontrolled commercial exploitation

  6. Policy gaps • Lack of policies for protection of wetlands, grasslands and other areas. • Inadequate enforcement of existing laws • Inadequate implementation of eco-development programmers • Need for enhanced role of NGOs and other institutions • Need for political commitment and good will. • Need for providing Institutional support like Banks, FI • Lack of Local community participation

  7. Living and Non-Living Resources • Living Resources : Exist and are alive and are made of microscopic structures called cells. They grow and exhibit movement or locomotion. They experience metabolism, which includes anabolic and catabolic reactions. • Living things are capable of producing a new life which is of their own kind through the process of reproduction. Living things have a particular life span and are not immortal. • Non-Living Resources: Non-living things are not alive. They do not possess life. They do not have cells and do not grow or show locomotion/movement. They do not undergo metabolism with anabolic and catabolic reactions. They do not reproduce.
