Climate Zones in the United States • (mostly) Continental: this means that there can be rapid weather changes, different environments, and they experience warm summers, and cool winters. • Tropical (in Hawaii and Florida): this means that there are year-round high temperatures, very diverse vegetation, and a lot of precipitation. • Polar (in Alaska): this means that are no trees, low precipitation, and it is always very cold.

Typical Weather • Polar- little precipitation, strong winds, cold to below freezing temperatures • Continental- moderate precipitation in the summer, snow period in the winter, temperature can vary, wind can vary, rapid changes in weather • Tropical- high temperatures year round, excessive precipitation, hot and humid

  5. Description of Environment • Polar regions (Alaska)- Not a lot of vegetation, snow covered ground, no trees • Continental regions (most of US)- generally forests or tall grass prairies, can include farmland • Tropical (Florida, Hawaii)- luxuriant and dense vegetation, by a large body of water

  6. Lifestyle of the People living in the Environment In the more polar regions of the United States, people tend to stay indoors more. But, they do many winter activities including skiing, ice fishing, snow boarding, etc. In the more continental regions, they can enjoy a wide range of activities like swimming in the summer, fun outdoor activities in the fall and spring, and sledding in the winter. In the tropical regions, there is surfing, swimming, and fun in the sun year round.
