Understanding Electric Circuits: Truth Tables and Parallel Configurations

Explore the fundamentals of electric circuits through the creation of truth tables for parallel circuits. In today's lesson, you will learn how to draw a circuit diagram featuring two cells, switches, motors, and bulbs in parallel. We'll review the utility of parallel circuits and discuss how to alter current in series circuits. The lesson includes hands-on activities involving circuit setups and observational analysis. Finally, you'll draw truth tables and understand the significance of AND/OR gates, enhancing your grasp of circuit behavior.

  1. Electric Circuits – Truth Tables

  2. Truth Tables • WALT: Draw a truth table for an electric circuit Starter – can you draw a circuit diagram with 2 cells, a switch and a motor and a bulb that are both in parallel?

  3. Last lesson we learnt…… • Current in a parallel circuit …………………. • Parallel circuits are useful because ………….. • A way in which we can make the current in a series circuit change is………………. Today we will continue to set up parallel circuits and draw a truth table.

  4. Please turn to page 296-297 • Read together the text under “Series or parallel” • Now turn to page 306-307 – Truth Tables • You are going to carry out a couple of activities and write a truth table for a circuit.

  5. Activity 1: Set up these circuits: Copy these diagrams and write down what you’ve observed and an explanation.

  6. Activity 2: Set up the circuit given to you which includes 2 switches in parallel and a buzzer • Draw a truth table for the circuit • Write an explanation of what the truth table tells you When you are finished, draw a symbol for an AND and OR gate. Write a little explanation under each one to tell us when it would be used.
