  3. GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  4. GUIDING PRINCIPLES ROTARY INTERNATIONAL Object of Rotary The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life; • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

  5. GUIDING PRINCIPLES ROTARY INTERNATIONAL The Four-Way Test The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:Of the things we think, say or do • Is it the TRUTH? • Is it FAIR to all concerned? • Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? • Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? • 1/1/1943 Herb Taylor wanted to save the Club Aluminum Company that was facing a financial crisis so he came up with an ethical guide to right conduct for his employees.

  6. GUIDING PRINCIPLES ROTARY INTERNATIONAL People of Action • We are Rotary. A membership organization of business professional and community leaders who get together for fellowship, networking and to do good in our community and beyond.

  7. GUIDING PRINCIPLES ROTARY INTERNATIONAL Avenues of Service We channel our commitment to service at home and abroad through five Avenues of Service, which are the foundation of club activity. • Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership development plan. • Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society. • Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find ways to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and to serve the public interest. • International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding. We support this service avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more. • Youth Service recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as Rotaract, Interact, Youth Leadership Awards, and Youth Exchange. • Family of RotaryThe sixth avenue of service comprises those activities that show our interest in the well being of Rotarians and their families. Get well, birthdays, anniversary cards as well as outings that involve Rotarians and their families

  38. GRSP

  39. GRSP HISTORY • We are the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) founded in 1946 after WWII, an idea of PDG Will Watt of Thomasville. It was his dream that students from war-torn Europe, eager for peace, could come to the US and study in colleges and universities and learn about the American way of life. The first class consisted of four students; the class of 2008 consists of 66 and we are proud to have over 3,100 alumni from all over the world. • GRSP has promoted world peace through understanding by offering scholarships to international students for one year of study in Georgia colleges and universities. Georgia Rotary Clubs sponsor students recommended by a Rotary Club in their home country. The students become adopted members of a Georgia “host family,” living on-campus at the school they attend. • This is a scholarship program, not an exchange.
