ISLAM • One of the fastest growing religions today • The correct name of the religion of Mohammed • Many false ideas exist about Islam • This is the 2nd largest religion in the world • This is the religion of many in the US, as well as in Eastern countries like Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia, etc. • The Islam of Iraq is not exactly the same as that of India or Africa, but they agree on Allah and Mohammed • What if true? Would you/I change? • Overview lesson on the religion of Muslims

ISLAM… • Islam today is comprised of two principle schools: Sunni (90%) & Shi’ite (10%) • The minority school is the very militant, aggressive • In addition, there are millions of Muslim mystics are called Sufis • Also, we are aware in US of the dominant militant, predominantly black, belligerent movement • Believes the Koran/Quran/Qu’ran is God’s final revelation to man

ISLAM…Mohammed’s life • Also spelled Muhammed/Muhammad • Mohammed was born in Mecca & illiterate • Claimed revelations from angel Gabriel • Married to many women…even a 9 year old slave girl • Exception to marriage law for Mohammed (only up to 4 wives allowed by Koran) • Lived from approximately ca 570-632 AD

ISLAM…On God • The God of Islam is referred to as “Allah” • Muslims believe in this one and only God • This is NOT the God of the Holy Bible, for Muslims teach that the God of Christians is a pagan, false god (idol) • Scholars agree that pre-Mohammed, Allah was but one of the pagan deities of the pre-Islamic Arabic pantheon (collection of gods) and not even the central deity

ISLAM…On Jesus • Claim to believe in the true Jesus Christ • Teach that Jesus is a prophet of God • Believe that Jesus is not God/deity • Teach that Jesus did not die on the cross for the sins of the world • Advocate that Jesus was not raised from the dead • Believe Mohammed is a superior prophet than Jesus in giving the final revelation from God in the Koran (Quran)

  7. ISLAM…On the Holy Bible • Muslims believe that Allah gave numerous revelations, including the Old and New Testaments, as well as the Koran • Teach that the Bible is filled with many errors, having been corrupted by Christians • Therefore, the Bible to the Muslim is not trustworthy

ISLAM…On The Koran • Quran literally means reading or recitation • Muslims accept only the Koran as the Word of God today • The Koran was not written by Mohammed, as he could not read or write • Mohammed wondered at first whether these revelations were from God or devil (jinn = evil spirit) • Later, decided from God speaking to him in Arabic • The Muslims like to say that it is not possible to translate the Koran • There are 114 “suras” (like chapters) that make up the Koran

  9. ISLAM…Basic Beliefs • 6 Essential Beliefs/Articles of Islamic Faith • Faith in Allah • Angels • The Holy Books • The Prophets • Predestination • The Day of Judgment

  10. ISLAM…5 Fundamental Duties • Known as Pillars of Religion (obligatory) • Reciting the creed of Islam • Prescribed daily prayers (5) • Month of fasting – Ramadan • Giving of alms to the poor • Pilgramage to Mecca • Jihad (optional to some): Holy War

  11. ISLAM…It’s Influence • 2nd largest religion in Europe, 3rd in US • Claims to be the fastest growing religion • Over 50% of people in countries on three continents are Muslims • In ’74 in France, only 1 mosque; now 1600+ • Powerful influence politically, militarily, and very aggressive

ISLAM… Two Propositions • In October ’74, brother Hiram Hutto met Dr. Salah El Dareer in B’ham, AL in debate • “Jesus the Messiah is the only begotten Son of God, was crucified for the sins of the world, and the New Testament is God’s final revelation.” • “The advent of the Prophet Mohammed is clearly foretold in both Old and New Testaments, and the Koran is God’s final revelation.”

  13. From the Koran… Sura 9:5 “Then, when the sacred months have past, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”

From the Koran… Sura 4:157 “And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah Jesus son of Mary, Allah’s messenger – They slew him not nor crucified, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain...”

  15. From the Koran… Sura 9:30 “And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their saying with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah (Himself) fighteth against them. How perverse are they!” Another translation of this passage says…

  16. From the Koran… Sura 9:30 “The Jews call ‘Uzayr a son of God,’ and the Christians call ‘Christ the Son of God.’ That is a saying from their mouth; (In this) they but imitate what the Unbelievers of the old used to say. Allah’s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!”

  17. From the Koran… Sura 5:75 “The Messiah, the son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how we make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away?”

  18. Is the Koran inspired of God? SINCE • Jesus promised the apostles they would be guided into all truth Jn. 16:13 • The apostles rec’d all truth 2 Pet 1:3 • Paul preached whole counsel of God Acts 20:27 AND • If we go beyond the teaching of Christ, we don’t have God 2 Jn 9 • If we preach another gospel, we are accursed of God Gal. 1:6-9 • We must not add to nor subtract from (Rev 22:18,19) because “the faith was once delivered to the saints” Jude 3 THERE IS NO ROOM FOR THE KORAN!

There is no NEED for the Koran SINCE • The gospel of Christ is for every creature (Mk 16:15), in every nation (Mt 28:19) and is to last until the end of the world (Mt 28:20), and • In Christ we are “complete” (Col 2:10), and • The scriptures furnish us completely unto every good work (2 Tim 3:16) There is no need for any additional revelation: not the Koran, the Book of Mormon, Mrs. Ellen G. White, nor any other. QUESTION: What TRUTH does the Koran reveal that Jesus and the New Testament failed to reveal? It is clear, therefore, that there is no need for the Koran. When we consider that the Koran denies the sacrificial death of Jesus, ignores His resurrection, and perverts the very nature of God and His Son, we have no use for the Koran. THE NEW TESTAMENT IS FINAL!!!
