  1. Concave Spherical Mirrors

  2. What are they?

  3. Parts • Radius of curvature-a measure of the radius of the circular arc. • Center of curvature- is found at a point that is at a distance from the curve that is equal to the radius of curvature. • Focal Length-the point at which light converges coming from a concave spherical mirror.

  4. Parts

  5. Predictable Reflections • Object outside of C-image is between C and F, inverted and magnification is less than 1. • Object at C- real image at C and inverted with magnification of 1. • Object between C and F- real image at C, inverted and magnified greater than 1. • Object at F-no image. • Object inside F-virtual, upright image at C with magnification greater than 1.

  6. Equations • Mirror Equation- 1/p + 1/q= 1/f • P= object distance • Q=image distance • F=focal length • Magnification- M=h’/h=-q/p • M=magnification • H’=image height • H= object height

  7. Sample Problem • Open book to page 461. • Page 462. Problems 1-4
