  2. Family • Into the Wild • Chris felt pressure from his parents to live a life that didn’t align with his values • Many young people feel the same pressure from their families • School/grades • Athletics • College • Career choices

Friends • Brave New World • Bernard was an outcast because he didn’t participate in normal social activities (taking soma, playing obstacle golf, casual sex) • The tension between doing what he felt was right and feeling a sense of belonging eventually tore him apart until he made the decision to behave like everyone else • Peer pressure is a type of conformity • Teens feel the need to belong to a group and fear what others think of them
