  1. Trajectory status Initial objective Analysis and extrapolation of surface displacement, to produce a more sophisticated product than YoMaHa. Initial difficulty traj.nc file imperfections made it impossible to process the whole array.

  2. Sequence of events BAK didn’t know how to repair missing data in PROVORs Michel Ollitrault at IFREMER stepped up and agreed to organise the extraction of all required data for PROVORs at Coriolis. J-P Rannou recruited to process the files. After processing provors R&O reprocessed Coriolis APEXs As the net was spread wider, O & R started to identify a variety of errors in traj files, and embarked on a process of checking the entire global fleet.

  3. Key issues encountered & corrected by R&O Park pressure from measurements in traj.nc file may not match reported mission parameter in meta.nc file Grounding not always identified Timing errors. R&O have reprocessed a significant part of the fleet, from raw ARGOS messages supplied by DACs (Coriolis, AOML, JMA,….) A very wide range of formats (esp APEX, PROVOR, …) makes this a substantial task.

  4. Status The results of O&R’s labour is available in an atlas, ANDRO. This will be comparable to YoMaHa but with many errors, especially park pressures, fixed. As DACs have fixed their metadata errors, the quality of YoMaHa releases has improved ! ANDRO does not yet include extrapolation of surface displacement (see next presentation by MO) No plan yet for how to ensure traj.nc files are correctly filled by DACs in the future. Once all the lessons from R&O’s activity is complete, will it be possible for all RT DACs to learn how to create perfect files ?
