  1. College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards for Writing (W1) Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. Note the progression of skills from K-12. Trajectory

  2. Combination of drawing, dictating, and writing opinion pieces, such as the name of book with an opinion about the book or another topic Kindergarten

  3. Write opinion piece with a stated opinion, a reason, and sense of a closure Grade 1

  4. Write an opinion piece with an introduction, an opinion, and reasons Use linking words and a concluding statement or section Grade 2

  5. Create an organizational structure with reasons that support the opinion Use linking phrases Introduce point of view Grade 3

  6. Related ideas are grouped to support the writer’s purpose Provide reasons that are supported by facts and details Concluding statement/section is related to the opinion presented Grade 4

  13. Use the Trajectory Planning Chart to individually track one standard from Kindergarten to Grades 11/12. Select a scribe to track your findings on chart paper. Note the progression of skills at each grade level. Be ready to summarize the major findings for the group. Creating Trajectories
