  1. 12 October, 1492 Dearest Family, On August 03 1492 Columbus set forth with 89 sailors and three ships; the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. I sailed on the Pinta boat. My captain was Martin Pinzon. I got seasick after a few days on the boat. It was a very long boat ride. A few months later, it was great to finally see land , and to be somewhere new. On 12 October, 1492 we arrived on the island ofGuanahani. Guanahani is a large island and very flat. It’s green with many trees and also has a large lagoon in the middle of the island. Later on, we could see people swimming towards the boats and the island. When they came on to the island, we realized it was the Tainos. Columbus thought they were dressed weird and talked differently than us. Their speech was fluent although we couldn’t understand them.
