Extrusion • ‘Plastic’ clay forced through a ‘die plate’. • Die plate can be customised to alter the shape, dimension and wall thickness of the extrusion. • Useful for making sections that can be used to construct a piece or to create repetitive elements. • Can also be used as a ‘Former’.
Extrusion • Hollow extruded tubes used as ‘former’ for extruded coil sculptural pieces.
Formers • Customised support for each module / part during the firing process. • Can be made using extrusion process, from a plaster mould or can be hand-made. • Can be used repeatedly and fired multiple times.
Formers • ‘Ceramic Fibre’ or ‘Silica Sand’ can also be used to support modules or parts during the firing process instead of making a former.
Press Moulds • Enables user to make multiples of a particular form or an embellishment to form. • Made using plaster to press mould into. • Hand carved, hand made or plaster carved designs can be made into a press mould.
Surface Treatments • Anything can be used to ‘mark make’ or create surface texture. • Any texture you create can be replicated into a press mould if desired. • ‘Burnishing’ is a tedious but rewarding treatment as it produces a semi gloss finish without having to glaze.
