    2. Prior to the formation of the CIC: In the broader Milnerton, Table View, Melkbos area there was no dedicated crisis centre or safe house for abused women and children. Furthermore there was no non-religious, local, free trauma intervention and support offered for people in crisis. Most of the support that was available was accessible during office hours and not over weekends. There has been a massive increase in the area across all race, religions and creed of people in crises with nowhere to go! LAST YEAR ALONE THE CIC HANDLED OVER 2 000 CASES ALL THROUGH OUR VOLUNTEER NETWORK!!!!

By addressing the specific needs of our diverse community the CIC has gained a sound and solid reputation as being unique in that they offer . . . 24 hour service Immediate support either face to face or telephonically On-site service delivery Services free of charge A strong local professional and para-professional referral network Excellent working relationship with the South African Police Excellent medical support from Milnerton Medi-Clinic, Netcare Blaauwberg Hospital and the local medical fraternity A fully integrated service one stop shop.

    4. critical incident de-briefing trauma intervention & crisis management short term post trauma support trauma de-briefing through play therapy for children recommendations & referrals telephonically or face-to-face referrals for counselling de-briefing support to police and other emergency services establishment of support groups where required preventative education & training monitoring of service / identifying gaps placement in safe houses for long term assistance(the CIC safe house is an emergency, short term safe haven for abused women and children) practical support development of strong referral relationships

    6. Established in 2001 - community based, inter-faith and open to all Through a process of public participation a vision and mission was established. Membership was open to all and a governing board was elected Growth of services, facilities and volunteer base Development of protocols and working agreements Need for resourcing to meet sadly growing demand

    7. The Community Intervention Centre is dedicated to operate as a resource Centre providing hope and support for all people in crisis situations, to stabilise them emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.

    8. Build dynamic relationships with key role players in the community such as doctors, nurses, spiritual and other counselors, welfare workers, educators, legal practitioners and the police. Stabilize, treat and where necessary, refer people in crisis to relevant professional services for further treatment and support. Be a resource centre for youth and family issues. Pro-actively inform and educate people. Raise sufficient funds to build and sustain the centre. Provide an emergency safe haven for abused woman and children.

    9. To emancipate, empower and nurture wholeness in all people and their families within our community. To have professional, mature, ethical and trusting relationships. To provide and build an enthusiastic and helpful service team with sound knowledge and advice. The centre will be run as a service to the community on a non-profit basis.
