  1. The Great Kapok Treeby Lynne Cherry Ansley

  2. Summary I just read an amazing story, The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. The Great Kapok Tree is about a man who is trying to chop down an enormous tree in the Amazon rainforest. The great kapok tree of course but how will the man chop it down with its enormous strength and all of its rainforest friends? There are so many wonderful characters in this story but most of the characters are the rainforest friends. The animals of course but they aren’t happy when the man starts going “CHOP” “WHACK” with his ax but what happens next? I rate this book 10 out of 10 kapok trees because it has great details and exciting animal friends. I think you would enjoy this book The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.

  3. Text to Self Connections I made some text to self connections when I read the story The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. My first connection is that I have seen a Boa Constrictor. In the book there was a Boa Constrictor that lived in the tree. I saw a Boa Constrictor in my friends backyard near some wood. My next connection is that I love a tree in my backyard. In The Great Kapok Tree the animals love the tree because it gives them shelter and protection. I love the tree in my backyard because I can climb on it and collect its leaves. Finally, my last connection is that I have persuaded someone to not hurt nature. In The Great Kapok Tree the animals persuaded the man not to cut down the kapok tree. I persuaded someone to not litter by writing a note in horizons. Those are my text to self connections with The Great Kapok Tree.

  4. Text to Text Connections I made some text to text connections when I read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. My first connection is that both of the trees were helpful. In The Giving Tree the tree was helpful to the boy by letting him use her shade. In The Great Kapok Tree the tree was helpful by letting the animals use its shelter and protection. My next connection is that both of the trees wanted to be cut down. In The Great Kapok Tree they wanted to take it into the city to make things like houses and newspapers. In The Giving Tree the boy wanted to cut it down so he could make a nice house. Finally, my last connection is that both of the trees were loved. In The Great Kapok Tree it was loved by the animals because it gave them a home. In The Giving Tree it was loved by a boy because it gave him her apples to eat , her branches to build a house , her trunk to build a boat , and a place to sit and rest. That is how I compared The Great Kapok Tree and The Giving Tree.

  5. Text to World Connections I made some text to world connections when I read the book The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. My first connection is that all rainforests are important to the things around them. In The Great Kapok Tree the rainforest is important to the animals and people. Why it was important to the animals is because it provides them shelter , protection , and a home. It is important to the people because it could give them a house , a boat , and oxygen to breath. In real life they are important because they offer homes to trees , other plants , animals , and local people but they also play a big role in keeping the Earth’s climate as we know it. My next connection is, what will be the effects of cutting down the rainforest. In The Great Kapok Tree the effects would be the animals loosing there homes also people would loose oxygen that the tree had stored.

  6. In The Great Kapok Tree the animals almost lost there homes when the man tried to chop it down. In real life if rainforest trees are cut down the air becomes drier. There is less rain in the forest and less water vapour joins the invisible rivers. Those are my text to world connections.
