  1. The Great Kapok Treeby Lynne Cherry Bryce Barker

  2. Summary • I read this outstanding book called The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. The Kapok tree is in the Amazon Rainforest. One day a man was trying to cut down the great Kapok tree. But then the man got tired, so he when to sleep. Along came a bee, a snake, a sloth, and a leopard to try to persuade the man to not cut the tree. The man woke up and… Will he cut down the tree? Read this book to find out. I rate this book 9 out of 10 animals because it’s a fun lovable book.

  3. Text to World Connection After I read The Great Kapok Tree I made a connection to the world. The animals talked in the story to the man persuading the man not to cut down the tree because it’s their food and shelter. In the real world the animals can’t talk, but the Earth can. The Earth is talking by showing us what will happen when the rainforests are destroyed-The oxygen is less, there is more carbin dioxide in the air, and homes and food for the animals are gone. People have to protect the Earth by telling people to stop cutting down trees in the rainforests.

  4. Text to Self Connection • In the story The Great Kapok Tree the animals were afraid they were going to lose their home. I know how they felt because I did lose my house three years ago by a fire. I lost my shelter and protection, just like the animals might have in the story. We were both sad and scared.

  5. Text to Text Connection After I read The Great Kapok Tree I read the book Can you Find it in a Rain forest . They both take place in the Amazon, and both stories have a sloth, toucan, jaguar, parrot, monkey, and a snake. The Great Kapok Tree is fiction because It’s teaching the reader a lesson, the other book is nonfiction because it’s giving the reader information about specific animals. I like The Great Kapok Tree more because it taught a lesson about not cutting down trees. I like how the animals persuaded the man to leave their home alone. If you want to learn about Rain forest animals, then read Can you Find it in the Rain forest. Do you know what a tapir is? I did not know what a tapir was before I read this book, now I do.
