  8. NO MORE MANUAL CHARTS • All Patients – • New disclosures and vaccine cards are scanned into the system. • Vaccine information is keyed into the system for better tracking. • Old chart information is scanned only if patient has history of multiple chronic diseases. • Physician Patient Exam– • Reviews MA notes for reason of visit. • Enters all encounter information and orders MA tasks which includes labs, prescriptions, referrals, vaccine needs and follow up appointments. • Finalizing Patient Visit - • Physician enters DX codes, CPT codes and summarizes visit. • Physician responsibility for billing is done

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT • ELECTRONIC BILLING – • Electronic billing is transmitted to insurance companies and MediCal. • Encounter information is also transmitted to HMOs and IPAs. • MANUAL BILLING– • CHDP - We still do this manually as we have not seen any system that can handle this yet. • Some IPAs and health plans accept electronic CHDP. • DISPUTED OR REJECTED EOB’s - • Each disputed or rejected EOB is reviewed daily and resubmitted.

  10. WHY WE LOVE IT • PATIENT CARE – • patient care has improved significantly. • decrease medical errors, check for drug interactions, allow for electronic prescriptions, and make the referral process more efficient and accurate. • ability for the doctor to review patient charts from anywhere with internet access. • INCREASE IN BILLING RECEIPTS– • billing is done seamlessly reducing many errors • disputes or rejections are handled most often within 48 hours. • REPORTS- • recall visits of patients with chronic diseases or those due for physicals and vaccines • real time account receivable reports. • electronic insurance eligibility check.
